Industry = Industrial

Press Release Summary = Besides offering numerous advantages nanotechnology has some
disadvantages too, and this is what's causing concern for the U.N.

Press Release Body = Control and tighter regulations are required to make
nanotechnology safer, proclaimed the U.N. on 5th February 2007. UNEP (U.N.\'s
Environment Program) in its yearly report on global environment said, swift action
from the policy makers was the need of the hour so as to allow the proper evaluation
of new science.

Nanotechnology offers tremendous potential for economic, social, and environmental
advantages. The benefits range from newer techniques in the world of medicines to
saving of energy and material, plus the progress in pollution detection &
remediation.

In commercial world, nanotechnology aims at developing new products & materials by
creating or changing materials at molecular and atomic levels. However, the
potential risks associated with further production of nanomaterial need the
immediate attention of governments and businesses throughout the world.

Since, the impacts on environment are still largely unknown and there's an absence
of public controls as well. More systematic research and sector specific policies
are needed to identify the socio-economic, health, and environmental hazards.

While still at its infant stage, nanotechnology is a booming industry. Accountable
for below 0.1% in 2004, it's expected to capture about 14% of US$ 2.6 Trillion
manufacturing market worldwide by the year 2014, as per UNEP.

UNEP is calling for greater co-operation between the public and private sectors as
well as the industrialized and developing economies. The agency also intends to
educate the masses about the technology, so that awareness can be increased about
the benefits & risk associated with nanotechnology.

RNCOS has just published its much-awaited report on "The World Nanotechnology Market
(2006)". According to this report, toxicity & its exposure to both environment and
human is the most pressing issue at present. This is, more appropriately, a safety &
heath issue and not a political or ethical issue. However, due to the perceived
novelty of nanotechnology, there're increased concerns that the technology is likely
to present new kinds of hazard or exposure. Therefore, it will raise new questions
as to how to deal with them.

About the Report

The research report also addresses the issues and facts that are critical to
business success. For example, it includes the global outlook of nanotechnology
market, analysis of the market by various products & application areas, their market
and growth prospects. Also covered in this report are the opportunities and
challenges before Nanotechnology.
